• Most all my site images loaded in the media gallery, including all slider images for the front/home page, have a permalink with an underscore. Google prefers dashes. I can not find a way to edit or change the permalink to most if not all of the important images within my home page.

I tried uploading the same images under a different name containing keywords and numbers. Same thing happens, the permalink to the image contains an underscore.

My permalink settings is not set for this to happen. I have the permalink setting to Post name, which works fine with all posts and pages.

How can I set the image permalinks to not use an underscore when uploading. And is there a way to edit the existing images in the gallery or should I be looking to reload all?

Thanks for the assistance and opinions!

The image URL should be dependent on the file name. Can you provide an example of a URL like that?

    Google prefers dashes.

Really? I’m pretty sure you just need to provide good content and the rest will work itself out. ??

Thanks for the opinion and assist with this. Don’t argue the content part but every little bit helps, which is why I ask the question.

Here is an example of an image URL and its permalink:

    URL:
    https://www.johnhughesgolf.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/John-Hughes-Copy-2.jpg

    Permalink for same image:
    https://www.johnhughesgolf.com/?attachment_id=707

Opinions, comments, and suggestive fixes are very much appreciated.

The ?attachment_id parameter is built into WordPress for that page when you inserted that image and had it point to the Attachment Page. It should only be that way when you point the image to the Attachment Page when the permalinks was set to the default.

When you save a new attachment with your new permalinks it should point to something like this.

    https://your-url/attachment/your-image-here-jpg/

Have you tried re-saving the post to update the attachment URL? Your URLs above are not loading for me.
