• I have tried to do this by downloading FETCH and accessing my database that is hosted at register.com

    My site is UFFNP.org/wordpress1

I want it to be UFFNP.org without that wordpress1

I know this is common and I am following the tutorials but it isn’t working for me.
I am now concerned that I changed the code in the index.php file or moved it and I can’t get it back.

Can someone help me? I am new to WordPress and web hosting. I work at a university and I have not done any of this part myself – just the design so any help is appreciated.

Make a full backup first – just in case!

Login to WordPress and in Dashboard > Settings > General remove “wordpress1” from the WordPress Address and Site Address boxes. Save changes.

Then use FTP to move all the WordPress files from /wordpress1/ into the root folder.

You will probably have some links to fix, in the content of pages and posts, the menu and widgets etc. If there are a lot of broken links, you should look into doing a Find and Replace across the website (several ways to do this) to remove /wordpress1 from all the links at once.
