  • The instructions at https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory
    are exactly what you want.

I also set up my WordPress sites during dev work and then just point them to the root. I wrote a blog post about it here -https://www.bluelimemedia.com/2011/01/31/setting-up-wordpress-for-developmen/
It’s the same instructions as in the codex, but worded slightly differently.

    Good luck

Thank you so much for the quick response.

I have a question about the instructions. For some reason, when I am on FileZilla, it won’t let me view the root folder. I can see everything inside of 1 folder within the root folder, but nothing outside of that.

So if I wanted to, I could move the wp folder into what I am able to see, and edit everything accordingly. I can move the index.php file into the root directory easily through cpanel, but since .htaccess is a hidden file, and I can’t access the root folder through FileZilla, I have no way to move it into the root folder through either cpanel or FileZilla. Any ideas on what’s going on here?

I would contact the hosting provider. The FTP info you have is most likely for the wp folder. There’s probably another for the root. That info might even be in your Cpanel.

Thanks! I’ll be sure to look into that. It seems to be the root of the problem here.

I have read that post but I cannot get rid of wp as I am not very specialist to these things.
Can anybody explain more simple and step by step?
    Thank you
p.s. I also checked the website related to button. It still could not get rid of “wp”.

    please let me know:
where is “box for WordPress address (URL)”?
what is “new location of your main WordPress core files”?
where is ” box for Site address (URL)” ?
    What is “root directory’s URL”?
    Thank you

and at the top, i don know how to :Create the new location for the core WordPress files to be stored

    ??
