  • Hey there, ioloman!

.htaccess is a pretty versatile file. For the most part, it contains information that dictates how your permalink structure acts, and occasionally some redirect instructions if you customize it.
The /wp-admin folder is an odd place to find it unless you have some very specific reasons for placing one there. Usually, you would find .htaccess in the same folder where your wordpress is installed. No others folders need the file under normal circumstances.

Here are some tips on .htaccess for permalinks.

And .htaccess files in general. (Use wikipedia as a jumping off point, not as a definitive authority)

You renamed your .htaccess file and put it in wp-admin? Are you using the ‘default’ permalinks setting by any chance? If you are, you don’t need a .htaccess file.

Thanks ClaytonJames for the useful details!

yes Gary Barrett , im using the default permalinks, that’s why my permalinks structure still works well,
I also tried to use custom permalinks that i just set up, so it worked well with categories pages and posts without having .htaccess file on my server but i’ve noticed that my pages permelinks didn’t change (they still use the default permilinks).

So, i uploaded .htaccess file to wp-admin folder and changed the default permalinks to custom one, although my pages still use the default permalinks (?) did i miss something ?

    Thanks
