    Hi,

I got a project from an agency which requires me to white label the theme with their name. With the pace wp is going, I don’t think going with classic theme that offers white labelling is what I want to do.

Can I make a chile theme of twenty twenty three and rename it to my client’s name? Is it legal/ right to do it? I know I can just clone the theme and rename it, but I don’t think it’s ethical, idk about the legality with GNU license for this case.

Please don’t bully me since I don’t know where else to ask, that’s why I’m asking here, the theme’s main support forum.

Thank you very much for your time, have a good day

    Hey @aditmb – that’s a great question (definitely no cause for bullying ?? ).

The short answer is that it is totally fine to create a child theme with the clients name and use that as your base. In fact, I’d say that’s a fantastic way to do it.

If the client were to go looking in the Themes section of the admin – they’d possible see that it is a child of the TwentyTwentyThree site – if that is a concern.

Another option would be to essentially clone the theme (like you mentioned) which is possible whilst still adhering to the GPL license (as long as whatever you change is still open source and licensed).

There’s even a community-led plugin for exactly that. You can make changes to TwentyTwentyThree in the Site Editor – and then export a brand new theme which includes those changes – I recommend checking it out.

    Thanks for the answer @jordesign

Yes, that’s the plugin I’m talking about to clone the theme. If I don’t do any code modification, just the name and screenshot (for the agency to be fancy), am I allowed to do this? Seeing it as a child theme of TT3 might be an issue tbh (haven’t confirm it)

Hey @aditmb – from what you’re saying – that sounds like it would be 100% ok ??
