• I had high hopes for this plugin. Looked like something that is sorely needed for WP. Too bad I couldn’t get it to work. I tried over and over, adjusting permissions, changing htaccess rules, etc. Each time I got a slightly different problem. Too many different variations to troubleshoot.

I finally uninstalled it, but then I noticed that the paths to all of my media files still pointed to the mediavault directory. They were still protected, but the option to unprotect them was gone. I had two choices — 1. upload all of my media again or 2. re-install and uncheck “protected” on each file. I went with option 2.

Does anyone have this plugin working with WP 4.0? Let me know if you have a chance. Max (the developer) seems to have checked out of the conversation about 6 mo. ago. Max if you are out there let us know. Confirmed working I will try again and document the problem. Until then I’ll sit things out and use my own htaccess rules as a substitute.

  • I just got it working last night on a 4.0 multisite. I get one error message when trying to add multiple files at once from the medialibrary, but it seems the protection/moving-part works. When I go to each individual file and add protection from there, there are no errors

I have the same issue, doesn’t seem to be working with me either. Hopefully Max can shed some light on this situation.

I am having the same issue. If I engage any level of protection at all, the file in inaccessible. I am logged in as an Admin, and still cannot access the media file unless I unprotect the document/file completely. Would love to know how to make this work, because the concept is something we sorely need on our website!

    Hey y’all,

Was having the same issues yesterday, where nobody could access my protected files (which I had hyperlinked on the page). Figured it out today, hopefully it will help you:

When you protect media files that you have already uploaded, the URL changes to include the phrase “_mediavault/”. So if you have the media inserted on the post before you downloaded the widget and clicked to protect them, then it’s linking to the old URL that didn’t contain “_mediavault/”. The plugin, unfortunately, does not change the URLs on the pages, just on the media file itself.

Go back in and update your URLs on the page you added them to and it should work. If that’s not the problem you’re having, feel free to ignore me. I just thought I’d post here in case it helps anyone!
