Repeated password failures

    About once every week for the last month my blog asks for my password. Each time I give it, I get an error message. I then request a change of password, but what I receive doesn’t work. So then, I go into phpMyAdmin and reset the password myself. A week later, I have to do it again. What’s causing this problem and how can I prevent a recurrence?

  • This just happened to me, the new pw that WP sent didn’t work and now I get an “account suspended” message. EEEK! Now what?

    I never had any such thing on any of my WP installations. Perhaps you want to check error logs or find if anything runs that could cause a thing like that. I’m thinking about auto updates, backups, etc. not necessarily WP-related, but maybe something your host does on the server the website is on. Just thinking out loud, but the logs might be a good point to start.

    I contacted my domain host, who came back with the following:

    “it is not possible for us to predict or foresee any abusers` intentions to rapidly increase traffic and in this way overload shared server and affect another customers accounts. At this moment abuser has been restricted and we do not expect any issues once again on your server.”

    Apparently, the problem was caused by a spammer.

    I have gone back into phpMyAdmin and changed the password. It still does not work.

    Now, what should I do?

    OK, I’m back into my blog now. In case anyone else can benefit from my experience, here’s what it took: I went here https://pajhome.org.uk/crypt/md5/
    and entered a word I wanted to use as a password. The MD5 Hash was created. I copied the Hash and pasted it into user_pass in users in phpMyAdmin. Then, I used the original password on my Dashboard. Bingo – it opened.
