Repeating first name

  • Hello,
    I have been noticing lately that when a logged in customer goes to check out, their first name is repeated twice.

    For example:
    John Smith shows up as John John when logged in and checking out.
    John Smith shows up as John Smith when NOT logged in and checking out.

    I am curious if anyone else is having this issue.

    I have not had any other reports of this, no.

    I’m not sure I understand where exactly you’re talking about..?? Are you referring to the WooCommerce checkout page billing and shipping forms?

    I hope this helps to replicate the issue.

    1. Website URL: https://www.r90sportscards.com
    2. I log in.
    2. Add an item to my cart.
    3. View Cart and click Pay with PayPal button.
    4. I am taken to Paypal, where I log into Paypal and on the next screen the Ship to shows my first name twice… in this example, Ryan Ryan

    This information is then passed back to my orders on the site as Ryan Ryan.

    If I repeat the process but I am NOT logged in, the information I see on Paypal is correct and passes back to my site correctly and I see my First and Last Name on the site.

    Can you tell me what other plugins you have running?

    Sure, at the time of the test, I disabled all other plugins and only had woocommerce and paypal for woocommerce active. I have reached out to the theme author as well, however, I have this happening on multiple sites.

    That is very strange because I do not have any other reports of this at all, and I’ve checked all my own sites and this isn’t happening on any of them.

    There has to be something unique going on with your setup. Do each of your sites use the same theme?

    I checked that too… They both use themes from completely different authors. I have reached out to one for assistance and I just recently reached out to WooCommerce.

    You have been extremely responsive and I am so thankful.

    Have you checked your account in your WooCommerce system? Any chance it simply has the first name for both first and last name?

    When you’re logged in the system uses the local account info as much as it can, so that’s the only thing I can think of.

    Thank you for pointing that out to me. It looks like the information is changing for some users in the Customer Shipping Address.

    I will check in with WooCommerce for this.

    Would it be best in the Paypal for Woocommerce to enable the Set billing address in WooCommerce using the address returned by PayPal option?

    That feature is there because when the WC checkout page is skipped then the system does not have any billing address at all since PayPal will not return anything but a shipping address. So you can check that to fill it in with the same info so that it’s not blank.

    Again, though, if you’re signed in to the site when you checkout then it would use the info that’s in the local account profile instead of what PayPal sends.

    That said, I know we’ve made some adjustments around that over the past few versions, but I haven’t specifically tested that sort of thing in a while now. It would be worth a shot if you want to give it a try.
