Replace username?

    I have been looking at a lot of your plugins, and it’s clear that, unlike some of those who make plugins available here, you work on real sites that have specific requirements. In fact, many of my sites already use identical or similar functionality to what many of your plugins provide.

    Here’s a case in point. Your plugin works very well and, with the prefix, it ensures that the LH Membership Numbers will also be unique. I currently use a hack to auto-generate usernames. This works 100% within a site, but it cannot 100% guarantee uniqueness across different sites.

    What would interest me, therefore, is if you could have this number set automatically as a username. That would not only make every username unique but also immediately identify the site to which the user belonged.

    Would that be possible, or is it too fraught with danger?

    Yes all the plugins are work product from sites Ive doe or from my startup. It is my way of giving back, plus I kepted getting frustrated at plugins that were lowest common denominator IE full of features that I’d never need and/or badly designed.

    Re the username issue I can’t see any issues with that approach. Although some people might want both a username and a membership number so it would have to be an optional extra.

    I could add it to the plugin if you like (as a configurable option). But as it not currently a feature I need, it wouldn’t be free. It would take an hour so I’d say USD 50…

    I just had a play to see whether I’d need custom code to take account of plugins I use, and I ended up coding the hack successfully myself. I’m a bit surprised, but it’s all working.

    So thanks again for responding, and I’m sorry to have troubled you. I will get in touch, though, via your site if I find I need something else doing.
