Replaced pdf-file cannot be found

  • Hi there, I replaced a pdf file (operating instructions, in German: Betriebsanleitung) in wordpress. The new file has exactly the same name as the old one, as there are many products which have a link to this operating instruction. Before I uploaded the new file, I deleted the old one in the wordpress media folder. The old file was stored as …uploads/2023/02/Betriebsanleitung_Nullpunktspannsystem_DE_EN.pdf. (That’s the link address shown when I move the mouse over the link “Betriebsanleitung“.)

    When I looked for this folder via Filezilla, there was no folder ..uploads/2023/02/, so I created a folder with this name and uploaded the new pdf file into the newly created folder.

    The problem is that the new pdf file cannot be found and I get an 404 error. It would be great if anyone had an idea what the reason could be here.

    Try something like this:

    • upload the new file into media library. take note of the url of the newly updated file.
    • use a plugin like Better Search Replace to find all instances of OLD FILE URL in pages, posts, products etc. and replace with the NEW FILE URL.

    • make a complete backup before making any changes using Better Search Replace plugin – Test changes in a staging site if you have access to one.

    Thank you for your reply. I will try this.

    When I type the link address below, the pdf file loads correctly.
    But I cannot see the folder “07”(marked bold in the link below) on the server. Does anybody know the reason?
