• We have been using WooCommerce PayPal Checkout Gateway with no issues, when a pop-up appeared suggesting WooCommerce PayPal Payments. Since the Gateway plugin page is now redirecting to the Checkout plugin page, it was safe to assume that the Payments plugin is an upgrade to the gateway plugin.

Installation and activation went fine. We only de-activate the gateway plug-in (not deleting it – a very wise decision), and move on to setup the new plug-in. First crap: using the one-click setup, even if you are signed-in to your PayPal account, the stupid plug-in goes to create a new business, using data from your existing one. This would only call for issues with your PayPal account (two identical businesses would be a major red flag) – chances are PayPal does not have the slightest idea about this crappy plug-in, let alone co-creating it.

Since the one-click setup is not working as advertised, you are only left with the manual setup option. Good luck with that! Developers at WooCommerce didn’t even bother to use standard PayPal terminology, so you can find easily the required information (the help pop-ups are simply a practical joke). You enter the information PRAYING you enter the right details in each field, and you hit the ‘Save’ button…

BAM! Rather than anything else, you get the generic WordPress critical error page. You think you can correct any errors? LOL! You CAN’T! Rather than getting in the plugin settings page, you end up again with the generic WordPress critical error page. No matter what tricks you try, you always end-up there.

If you have the gateway plugin, stick with it and don’t fall for crappy ‘replacement’ plugins. WooCommerce devs should be happy there is no 0-star rating.

    Hello @screentag,

PayPal Payments is the latest official PayPal plugin and is a collaborative development effort between us at Inpsyde, WooCommerce, and PayPal.
All other official PayPal plugins such as the PayPal Checkout plugin are slowly being retired and this plugin will be the new default going forward.

The fatal error you encountered after saving the settings with manually entered credentials may be related to having entered incorrect API credentials.
The Client ID and Client secret are details that should be known to you alongside the email address. The merchant id might be displayed as an account id in the PayPal interface, but this is the same terminology as used in other plugins.
If any of these are incorrect, an error might occur currently.

Anyway, you can restore the plugin settings page by deleting woocommerce-ppcp-settings in the wp-options database table. This will remove the incorrect credentials and allow you to onboard again.
Apologies for the trouble, our developers are working to fix this issue as soon as possible.

For the easiest plugin setup, we recommend using the onboarding via login as it will fill the rest of the info automatically. When you onboard your account for the first time, you may need to accept the terms of the PayPal Card Processing and a business registration only pops up if the account does not fulfill all requirements. But I am not sure what kind of behavior you are expecting here.
If you need further assistance with setting up the plugin we are happy to assist you in a new support ticket:

    Thanks!

    Kind regards,
