Replacing a perfectly working plug in with crap
-
We have been using WooCommerce PayPal Checkout Gateway with no issues, when a pop-up appeared suggesting WooCommerce PayPal Payments. Since the Gateway plugin page is now redirecting to the Checkout plugin page, it was safe to assume that the Payments plugin is an upgrade to the gateway plugin.
Installation and activation went fine. We only de-activate the gateway plug-in (not deleting it – a very wise decision), and move on to setup the new plug-in. First crap: using the one-click setup, even if you are signed-in to your PayPal account, the stupid plug-in goes to create a new business, using data from your existing one. This would only call for issues with your PayPal account (two identical businesses would be a major red flag) – chances are PayPal does not have the slightest idea about this crappy plug-in, let alone co-creating it.
Since the one-click setup is not working as advertised, you are only left with the manual setup option. Good luck with that! Developers at WooCommerce didn’t even bother to use standard PayPal terminology, so you can find easily the required information (the help pop-ups are simply a practical joke). You enter the information PRAYING you enter the right details in each field, and you hit the ‘Save’ button…
BAM! Rather than anything else, you get the generic WordPress critical error page. You think you can correct any errors? LOL! You CAN’T! Rather than getting in the plugin settings page, you end up again with the generic WordPress critical error page. No matter what tricks you try, you always end-up there.
If you have the gateway plugin, stick with it and don’t fall for crappy ‘replacement’ plugins. WooCommerce devs should be happy there is no 0-star rating.
