I’ve read that it’s because of an issue with the Yoast SEO plugin, but they say “it’s an issue with when themes incorrectly use JavaScript to scroll based on the replytocom value, rather than on the individual comment container id value. If you experience problems with this, I recommend engaging with your theme vendor / developer support.”
    https://github.com/Yoast/wordpress-seo/issues/9226

Is there a fix for this, please?

    Hi Laurie,

Can you please let me know if you are using the latest version of Neve on the sites where the reply mechanism is not working? Also, what other plugins are you using? Have you tried disabling the Yoast plugin, and it worked well?
We had an issue with the reply button while using Yoast, but it was fixed a couple of versions ago.

Great questions, Rodica! It turns out I had the Neve CHILD theme activated, and that was what prevented the Reply to Comment function.

I’d activated Child because I wanted the Comment Box to appear just below my post; some of my posts have hundreds of comments. Readers don’t want to scroll through hundreds to leave their own comment. But, I paginated the posts into 10 comments per page. Seems the best, easiest solution.

By the way….if I did want to activate the Child theme…how would I fix the Reply to Comment function? Isn’t it better to use the Child theme instead of the Parent, for modifications? And yet my Child comment box modifications (that put Comment Box directly beneath post) didn’t carry over when Parent is activated.

Thank you so much for your help.

    Hi Laurie,

Thank you for all the details. I’ve found out the issue, we had to update the code provided in this doc as well https://docs.themeisle.com/article/1137-how-to-display-the-comment-box-above-the-comments-in-neve to match the fix we did in the theme, for Yoast.
Can you please update the code you have in your child theme with the one I’ve updated in the doc and let me know if everything is ok?

    Thank you,
    Rodica

Worked like a charm, Rodica. Child Neve is installed, the Comment Box is directly underneath the article, and I can reply directly to comments. Perfect!

Thank you so much, I really appreciate all your work. Neve is such a great theme, and your support is amazing.

Glad I was able to help Laurie! ??
