Does anyone know of a plugin that checks to see if an email address is valid before a comment is submitted?

    Thanks

    go to https://www.wp-plugins.net

if i remember right, i think i saw a plugin that would email the commenter with the email address provided and require them to validate before the comment is posted…

I saw that one already and wasn’t really feeling it.I’m looking for something a little more instant. If the e-mail address is valid then the comment automatically posts.I am using SK2 also. However, I don’t want this plugin for spam purposes.I get quite a few snotty comments from time to time from people who naturally do not use a real e-mail address.I think they’d be less inclined to leave nasty comments on my blog if they knew a real e-mail address would be required in order to post.

    OK…

What exactly are you wanting this feature for then? To get their email addresses? When they comment, you do get their IP address and if it becomes a problem with bad comments, then report them to the ISP. I’ve had to do this before and its effective.

I don’t know…maybe put a little disclaimer above the text box for the comment saying that their IP address will be recorded…something along those lines? If you ask me, IP addresses would be more effective than email addresses cause anyone could just sit here all day making fake email addresses with hotmail, yahoo, etc…

good point, how bout using gmail addys, or anydomain.com or … … bleh, useless.

If youre so inclined, its much easier to check off the “must have an approved comment…” thing, or any of the other options, or just delete rude comments, but clearly, checking email addys is an extra operation for the server (yes that takes a smidge of bw) and in the end is useless as free email addys are everywhere these days.
