When Checking Reports, it is Showing some downloads with extreme amounts (78,000 on one when we usually average about 2-3,000)…

Where can I reset this number?

I can only change the number of ‘manual downloads’’ but it says total downloads are made up of this manual number and ‘download monitor custom table count’. What does this mean?

A while back I was able to reset the number of downloads on individual files to any number, but it appears I can’t do this now.

    Hello Devan,

Did this happen suddenly, or little by little until it got to these numbers? Starting from plugin version 4.6.0 there is no way to reset these numbers, other than deleting them from the database.

Are only the reports showing these numbers or does the Download’s download count display them also?

    Warmly,
    Razvan

    Hey Razvan,

Thanks for coming back to me.

Ok thanks for letting me know.

If I do the Full year in Reports they almost match:
77,404 downloads Count and then on the Report it Shows: 77,314

But this is far too much, in the last year the amounts were between 5000 – 15,000 Total per month…
Then from November some Downloads are now showing 15,000 – 40,000 downloads each… per month…

    It is very Strange…

Indeed it is very strange. Are you familiar with databases? Is it possible for you to go to the download_log table, filter by a download_id and see how many of the logs have a download_status of failed?

    Hey Razvan,

I checked and their were no Rows with a download_status = failed

Is it possible to give a link to a page where you have a test download so we can check if everything is alright?

Thank you Devan. Could you please also put a template for the Download so I can see the download count?

    Hey Razvan,

I am not sure how to do that?

    Hey Devan,

Not really, more like this: [download id="4790" template=""] to be sure it ends up using the title + download count template.

    Razvan

    Hey Razvan,

Sorry the Download count was hidden with CSS.
That is now showing now for you.

    Many Thanks,
    Devan

    Hey @razvan,

I would suggest clearing your browser history/cache or viewing the site in Incognito mode…
I have checked and it is showing for me on the top right of the Download…

    Many Thanks,
    Devan

You are right, don’t know how I did not see that

Seems that the counting is going alright, as expected. One thing that comes to my mind are bots and false triggers.

Could you please add the following to Downloads > Settings > Advanced > Access > Blacklist user agents:
    Googlebot
    bot
    crawl
    slurp
    spider
    mediapartners

This will prevent bots from making false downloads, this way we shall see if the downloads are still in those big numbers / month.

    Warmly,
    Razvan

    Hey Razvan,

No problem, I have added those.
I will now wait until next month to see if their is a change.

    Many Thanks,
    Devan
