First of all, I really like this plugin. It make it easy to apply a relatively accessible menu that’s easy for clients to configure.

However, it seems that the responsive toggle menu uses CSS content property to add the name of the Menu. This could be interpreted as a Section 508/WCAG 2.0 A error or violation.

“Content inserted with CSS is not available to some screen readers, and to people with low vision who turn off style sheets.

    CSS content causes problems in:
?Firefox when the No Style menu item is chosen (CSS content disappears)
?NVDA 2016.2 with IE11 (CSS content not read)
?JAWS 17 with IE11 (CSS content not read)
?JAWS 16 with IE11 (CSS content not read)
?JAWS 15 with IE11 or Firefox 29 (CSS content not read)
?WindowEyes 9.2 with IE11 (CSS content not read)

    Section 508 (2000) 1194.22 (d) WCAG 2.0 A F87 Section 508 (2017) A F87”

What are the chances this can be addressed?

    Thanks!

    Hi hms,

    Thanks for reporting this.

I’ve made a fix, please can you try this:

    1. Install the WP Rollback plugin
    2. Update Max Mega Menu to v2.4.0.3
    3. Check your site, the toggle should still be the same as it was in v2.4 (both icon and text are still output using “content”)
    4. Go to Mega Menu > Tools and clear the CSS cache
    5. Check your site, the toggle should now use HTML for the menu toggle text

Great, that change will be included in the next official update too (2.4.1).

    Tom,

Actually, after looking at this again, I am still seeing the CSS content property and I am getting an error on my WCAG scan. I do have Version 2.4.0.3 installed.

Sorry for the oversight. Looks like this isn’t resolved.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

“Content” is still used for the toggle icon (like all dashicons/font icons), but the “MENU” text should be standard HTML.

Did you clear the CSS cache on the site you are testing? Please can you post a link to your site so I can take a look?

    Regards,
    Tom
