• Hi everyone,

Im using the latest nightly build of WordPress and i was wondering if someone could guide me on putting a contact form on my site such as the one of the bottom of this page https://binarybonsai.com/colophon/.
I have tried IRC but I was linked to something that I did not understand so If someone could be kind enough to guide me through or link me to an easy to undertand guide it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

  • I’ve been in the process of rewriting and packaging mine for public use. Give me another day or so to get it complete. You can test it for me and let me know if it works if you want. drop me an email: ryan at ryanduff dot net

There’s a contact form available in my Way Too Clean theme:
    https://ibebloggin.com/oldstuff/2005/01/06/way-too-clean-10/

You should be able to adapt it to your own site pretty easily. The instructions are very easy to follow.

    vinnie,

Thanks for posting that. I’m going to mess with it and put it into my 1.2.2 site. ??

No problem. I had that form working with 1.2.2 as well before I upgraded so it shouldn’t be too difficult to cobble back in ??

edit: hmmmm, maybe I should turn the contact form into a plugin of some sort, independent of my theme. I’ll see what I can do unless someone beats me to the punch ??

I thought about this one last week, but the only way I felt it could be done right is to have the contact form tied into all the anti-spam functionality – including any plugins. That probably means that the WP source will need to be edited in order for that to be allowed, but I don’t know the source well enough yet to know for sure.

Basically, the text-box on the contact form would need to act exactly like the text-box on the comment form, except that it emails whatever’s typed in instead of posting it to the blog as a comment.

Course, now that I’ve written that down, it sounds a lot easier than it did before…

I don’t understand why something as generic and simple as a contact form hasn’t been included with WP from the start. It seems like a no brainer to me to include a contact form.

Well, I’ve been beaten to the punch. Nice job Ryan!

I’ve tried it (and added it to my site) but it doesn’t seem to show the thank you message. I had a post with it inserted, and I did a test contact and all it did was (after submitting) show me my site, with excerpts of posts – no thanks, I got your comments or anything.

Don’t use wp-contactform on posts, jafer. It will do very strange things, especially if someone fills it out from a home page rather than a single post page.

The expectation is that it’s being used on a static page.

Alrighty, I’ll try it on another page and see if I get a thank you. Thank you ??
