Thanks for a very handy plugin! I like this plugin the best for creating columns in Genesis because the buttons make it so easy to use. This makes it a good solution for clients who edit their own content.

There is a small problem which shows up with columns that are of unequal height: text which comes after the last column should start at the beginning of a new line but may start within the last column instead.

This is handled in Genesis stylesheets via the clear and clear-line CSS classes; the latter class also draws a separator line. If you look at any of the column pages for Genesis child theme demo sites, you’ll see that columns are cleared before beginning a new multicolumn layout.

Would you please consider adding buttons and shortcodes that clear columns, both with and without a separator line? That would be a very welcome addition to this plugin.

    Thanks very much,

    Fred Chapman

Great observation! Thanks for the heads up, I cannot believe I overlooked that in the original release. I think you will be pleased with version 1.1.

Matthew, thanks for the super-speedy reply and update to your plugin! I tried Version 1.1, and the [clear] and [clear-line] shortcodes work perfectly. The new shortcodes are much easier than inserting empty <div> tags with a CSS class.

There’s one small problem, though: I don’t see any new buttons in the visual editor. I’m using the most recent versions of WordPress and Genesis with the Decor child theme.

    Fred,

You should see two new buttons directly to the right of the column buttons. If you hover over them they should say, “Add clear fix.” and “Add clear fix line.” I have tested on both local and live, and have not been able to replicate. Have you tried deactivating and reactivating?

Matthew, I deactivated and reactivated the plugin, and now I can see the two new buttons. Thanks for the fix!

May I suggest a couple of small enhancements to the new functionality?

    1. Some users might find it handy to add either the [clear] or [clear-line] shortcode automatically at the end of the columns groups created by the original five buttons. You could let users select a default behavior on the settings page: “After adding a column group, (a) do nothing, (b) clear columns, (c) clear columns and add line.”

    2. The tooltips for the new buttons say “Add clear fix.” and “Add clear fix line.” I think something like “Clear Columns” and “Clear Columns, Add Line” might be easier for people to understand if they haven’t read our conversation and don’t know the history of the new buttons.

Thanks again for responding so quickly to my concerns!

    Much appreciated,

    Fred

    Fred,

I am glad to hear that the fix worked. Thanks for the additional input, I will keep those in mind for the next update.
