• In the dashboard I’m trying to export “all content” using the Tools tab. Every time I try this, in multiple browsers, it times out and says the page is unavailable. After doing some research, it sounds like my file may be too large. However, it sounds like I can request a large file download from the WordPress folks, so I’d like to do that.

Does anyone else have any other workarounds?

I’ve created a localhost server on my computer using MAMP, and I want to transition our site from its current theme (usustatesman.com) to a new theme we purchased and work out all the bugs on the local server before taking it live.

  • You copy all the files in your wordpress directory and copy them in your locahost folder and export your server database and import the same database in your locahost database.

Now, change your site url to localhost in your database, so that you can use your site in localhost.

I’m not sure I follow. You’re going to have to walk me through in a little more detail.

This is what I’m trying to do: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_y0Gmsfqro

I’ve completed everything up to about the 4:50 mark, but again when I try to “export: all content” my computer times out or something happens that doesn’t allow the export to complete. In browsing the forums, it sounds like my file may just be too large and that I have to request a zip file from WordPress (https://en.support.wordpress.com/export/) See large file entry.

Once I get that file, I should be able to just import it into the localhost site I’ve set up, just like in the video. Right???
