Request – Event Countdown By Category.

  • Event Rocket is a fantastic plugin; I really wish a lot of these shortcodes came with The Events Calendar Pro.

    Would it be possible to get a shortcode that displayed a countdown timer for events by category instead of just a countdown for 1 individual event?

    For example if Event A is on June 1st and Event B on June 2nd the shortcode would display a countdown for Event A until it’s start date and then cycle to display Event B etc.

    Something like: [event_rocket_countdown category_id="111" show_seconds="true"]

    It’s possible your wish may come true soon ??

    With that in mind – for the reasons outlined here – it’s actually pretty unlikely I’ll develop these particular shortcodes further.

    As it so happens … although widget wrappers like [event_rocket_countdown] will most likely be deprecated in deference to those provided as part of a future Events Calendar PRO release, I have no intention of deprecating shortcodes such as [event_embed] and I was actually thinking of adding a new inline placeholder to this shortcode so it could be used as follows (it already allows filtering by category, etc):

    [event_embed category="blah" limit="1"]
    {countdown}
[/event_embed]

    Might that fit your needs (once implemented)? A key benefit is that this shortcode already provides very flexible filtering capabilities, so you could apply the same approach with tags, too.
