request for a way to split a WXR file

Hello people.
I am moving a blog which was hosted on a WPMU to a self hosted blog (on a shared hosting).

The WXR file size is about 9MB.
From my searching of the web – I realize it is a problem, that the only way to fix it is by splitting the file into several chunks of less then 2MB. yet I couldn’t find a script that does that.

Does any one has the will the make one?
Or even give direction so I would ask maybe a friend that knows programing to do it.
