Hey, I really like you plugin,

I have a website where the “random” link is used frequently and multiple times in a row However, after a few tries already-seen posts begin to come back several times for the visitor repetitively using the “random” link.

Would it be possible to add a function (maybe more close to a “shuffle” mode) where the random post doesn’t call the same post twice as long as all the posts have been already called ?

I already saw that someone requested this feature and wanted to ask if you maybe already implemented it? In the previous request you mentioned that you would need to implement cookies for that and it would make it difficult to establish it. I hope that it is still possible to integrate this feature and thank you very much in advance.
I also saw that it is possible change the url so that it ‘tracks’ the user, is this maybe the feature I am looking for?

    Kind Regards,
    Distractwheel

    Hi,

It’s not yet implemented but I now think it can be done using the cache.

    I will take a look.

Thank you, that is very nice of you! Let me please know and I maybe also thought about, that if the user went trough all the post that he gets redirected to a certain page (that tells the user that he has seen all the posts). But I guess that is also relatively complicated to implement. Also is there anywhere an option to donate to the people that made this plugin :)?

    Cheers!

I am currently abandoning the idea of the cache and checking the cookies again. (Because the list of visited posts is different for every visitor.) I’ll post when I get something working.

I thought now about restarting the random queue after the last post was done. But sending them to another page would of course also be an option.

On the main page of this plugin https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/redirect-url-to-post/ there is a “Donate to this plugin” button. Thank you so much! (The author is only one person – me. ?? )

Thank you very much Chris for implementing this feature so quick! What exactly do I need to put into the URL if I want to have this in combination with a category? Right now I have a url for random posts to all posts and several urls for random videos in a certain category. For the categories do I need to do the same url and then add “&each_once=rewind”? Also how long do the cookies remember that the visitor already saw this post?

Okay I will have a look, I can’t offer much because I am a student but Ill donate something ??

You just add &each_once=rewind, or &each_once=2 if you want to redirect at the end to the post or page with the ID 2.

If you have a special link for a category (with cat or category_name), you keep that part of the URL and add &each_once=….

The cookie will live 1 day counting from the last time a random post was retrieved with each_once. I think that most visitors will not take more time to read an article.

    Thank you!
