    Hello,
I’ve described a simple hack to improve the interface to setting the timezone offset in this beta forum port. Really, a few minutes should be enough to do it.
Anyone willing to code it ?
I declare this to be my “I’d-rather-post-than-code” request of the day.
    Cheers,
    mf.

We allow people to put in numbers because some people are in half-timezones, etc.

It wouldn’t work all the time, because some people want their “publish timestamp” based on the server time, or maybe the timezone they’re in. And sometimes the host you’re using has their time set to something not related to they’re timezone.

Mmmhh… And then there are those who prefer Real Solar time. or want to correct a badly timesync’ed server. Don’t even get me started on Daylight Saving Time… And… And…
This could be a good idea, but it calls more for a hack than a mode to the core codebase. Just my 2 pennies.
Oh, speaking of pennies, European users will be more familiar with GMT, which is good, but others will not, which is bad. Frankly, timezones are a nest of snakes, and it probably will not be possible to please everyone.

I knew someone had already done this before. I’ll be checking it later this wekend, but if anyone feels like it, go ahead. A different approach, more elegant than what I was talking about. Not sure how it deals with DST, though.
