• I’ve been through a number of the topics on the forums already but can’t find one that addresses this problem.

    1. When I try to login into my blog (https://thecurseofthedrinkingclass.com), I get a screen that says “The requested URL could not be retrieved”. I get this message now after I cleared my cache. My internet connection is fine, I can still login to all my other forums and sites.

    2. When I do get logged in, it says “404 Page not found” when I try to preview or publish a new post. I’ve changed the permalinks to default and still the same problem. (I changed them back.) My webhost has no problem posting and previewing posts. He gets no “404” message.

I’m using Firefox 3.6.10 (but it does this on Safari and Chrome). Please help.

  • Try re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress.

I don’t have access to the FTP. Can I do this without it or must I get the host to do this for me?

If your host doesn’t offer a file management application that you can use as an alternative, you’ll have to ask them to do this.

Have sent this to the host. Will keep you posted. *holding breath*

The host re-uploaded the files (except the wp-content file) and it’s still giving a 404 error when we try to publish and preview. It doesn’t let us preview and publishing gives a connection failure.

I noticed that in the Add New Post editor page, there is no permalink listed beneath the title. Ordinarily I can edit the link title but now nothing appears there.

I see now as well that I can’t delete plugins, update my permalinks, approve comments, change widgets; I can’t do anything to delete or add to the blog. I can’t reinstall WordPress 3.0.1 either.

Okay, we reloaded a previous version of the site and it seems to be working. Still confused though.
