Hi, I’d like to require everyone who comments on posts to enter a name and email address. I’ve seen this in other themes, but the fields are not showing in the Comments section for Gazette. I’ve checked the box in settings to require these. Is this possible? Thanks!

  • Hi there!

This wouldn’t depend on the theme but, as you said, on your site’s settings. Not sure what you’re using for your comments but here are instructions on how to set this up on Jetpack:

Thanks so much! I enabled commenting by social on Jetpack. I disabled comment author must leave email etc on WordPress. It looked like that worked, but when I tested, after I clicked Submit Comment, I received an invalid security token message. Did I miss doing something? Thanks for your help.

    What is the site URL?

    Thanks for looking….

Thanks for the URL. It seems to be working as expected:

When you check the site while logged into your WordPress.com account, you won’t need to input any additional data but if you’re not logged in, you’ll see the above.

Thanks. But I still got the error message. Is there anyway I can attach a screen shot?

Would you please use https://snipboard.io/ to provide a screenshot of what you’re seeing?

Thanks for your patience. Here’s the screenshot. I receive this message on different browsers, after filling out the email and name fields for comments left by a person not signed in. Then I get a popup with a “non-secure form” message. When I send it anyway, I get the invalid security token message. Thanks.

So I thought it might have been caused by the SSL certificate not being activated, so I took care of that. Although I didn’t get the non-secure form message this time, I still got the invalid security token message. Thanks.

Which browsers and version numbers have you tried? It seems to be working for both @fresatomica and myself. When I view a test post and I’m not signed in to my account (incognito window) and click on the leave a comment box, I am then prompted to fill in my name, email, and website.

Have you tried clearing the browser cache or viewing from an incognito view already?

Thanks, everyone! Even with all your help, I couldn’t figure this out, so I got a plugin.
