Required field function not working for conditional rule fields

I have 4 custom fields . 3rd and 4th fields are displayed based on the value selected in the 2nd field .I have made all the 4 fields as required .
Example :
2nd Field – Gender : values are ‘Mens’ and ‘ladies’
3rd field – Men’s sizes : values are ‘XS’,’S’,’L’ …
4th field – Ladies’s sizes : values are ‘XS’,’S’,’L’ …Conditional rules is that if “Men’s” is selected from gender , men’s size field should display …same for ladies .
Customer’s are able to select any one from gender since it is required . I have given required condition for 3rd and 4th field too but customer’s are able to add to cart without selecting 3rd or 4th field.
So why is that required not working for Conditional rules .??
