Required field set to select will not show error when default setting is shown

    Hi, I have a required field set to ‘select’ (country – I added all the countries into the ‘select option’ field – top item on list = ‘Select a country’) and set ‘Default’ to 1 and made a hook for ‘Default as placeholder’. When I tested the form, I noticed that when I leave the country field at Select a country (untouched) and submit, the form accepts this as a valid entry. No error message above the country field appears. How can I fix the problem so that my placeholder message is not a valid entry?
    Help is much appreciated. Thanks a bunch.

    Notice how I added square brackets.

    Hi mbrsolution,
    First, thanks for real quick reply.
    I did what you recommended:
    [Select a country]
    Afghanistan
    Albania
    …..
    But now I have Afghanistan in the field as placeholder. I did the testing with Default placeholder hooked and unhooked. Same result. I need to add I am still on localhost, but that shouldn’t really make a difference. ??
    What am I missing?

    It is the hook that you have created that is probably causing the problem. I have added this in a test site and it works well for me with all the countries showing up. Have a look at this URL it might help you with your issue.

    Ahhhhh, much better.

    You are a darling! Now it works. My mistake was that I had the Field modifiers: Default set to 1 and Default as placeholder with a hook. Took both off (as per your web instructions) and now it is OK.
