Suddenly the password no longer worked this morning. I sent myself the email. I reset the password. I went back to the login and it still fails. I am able to log into a non-administrator user. Just not the administrator. The login does not say the username or password is incorrect, it just has a pink error box after it shakes. I went through the reset process 3 times before I came to forums. I looked at the users in the database and the config.php code and I can not see anything unusual. The site seems fine too. https://shelter-care.org

Sorry, I had read these and neither of these posts seem to apply to my situation. I even tried the database change from the second article and I learned what MD5 is. It does not seem to be the password. I am concerned it may be an error related to something else. It is not saying the password is wrong, it just shakes and gives an empty error box. Thank you for your time to reply WPyogi.

Have you spoken to your hosts about this?

Yes, unfortunately the host in this instance is networksolutions.com so I am not able to monitor bruteforce attacks like I am on my server. So I added security to wordpress. That is what it was. I figured it out!!! It was that the security plug-in which advises changing your username away from admin. admin (user 1) was locked out yet there was no IP associated with the attack. So after I deleted the row out of wp_bwps_lockouts… it works. Then I changed the username admin to a secret name. Just like the security plugin had told me to.

    Thank you all for responding.
