I’ve been tinkering with the settings and have managed to make some changes to the CSS and other bits and bobs that I don’t like and can’t fathom how to undo. I’ve ended up seeing two versions of the recipe one after the other and also managed to change the background of one setting to the same color as the text and can’t work out how I did either and how to reverse them.

So I wondered if there was a way of resetting everything back to the beginning before I started blindly tinkering?

    Yours hopefully…

If it’s related to the recipe card, you should be able to start out from one of our default templates again in the Template Editor.

    Or is the issue elsewhere?

    Hi Brecht

Yes it’s related to the recipe card. I changed the template to one of the default ones and now I am seeing two iterations of the recipe – my version first and then the template version that I changed to under it. I can’t work out what I have done!

I’m not able to send you a link as my website is in maintenance mode.

It sounds like you have “Automatic Snippets” enabled on the WP Recipe Maker > Settings > Recipe Snippets page but have a regular recipe template selected instead of a snippet template.

Try changing the default snippet template to “Snippet Basic Buttons” on that same settings page.

Ah yes, that did it. Worked a treat, thank you!

I have another question (sorry!) When I created my own template, it was all going great but I can’t seem to make changes to one of the blocks, which is why I changed to one of the default templates and ended up in a muddle!

In the recipe meta container holding the prep time, cook time and total time, the block has a white background. But my text is white so I have tried to change it to the same colour as the rest of my background template (purple). This shows in the preview in the back end but the changes aren’t showing on the web page for the recipe. It’s not a caching issue as other changes are showing as I make them. I’m at a loss. Any idea?

    Thank you!

@brechtvds I’ve deleted your offer to login to your user’s site. I’m am 100% sure you mean well but please never ask for credentials on these forums.

Now for the why: The internet is a wonderful place full of very nice people and a few very bad ones. I’m sure everyone here is very nice however, by giving some ones keys to your house you are trusting they wont steal anything. Likewise the person who takes the keys is now responsible for the house FOREVER.

If something was to go wrong, then you the author may well legally become liable for damages, which they would not normally have been as their software is provided without warranty.

Please be aware that repeatedly asking for credentials will result in us escalating this to the plugins team.

It’s never necessary to do that. Here’s why.

There are many ways to get information you need and accessing the user’s site is not one of them. That’s going too far.

    • Ask for a link to the https://pastebin.com/ or https://gist.github.com log of the user’s web server error log.
    • Ask the user to create and post a link to their phpinfo(); output.
    • Ask the user to install the Health Check plugin and get the data that way.
    • Walk the user through enabling WP_DEBUG and how to log that output to a file and how to share that file.
    • Walk the user through basic troubleshooting steps such and disabling all other plugins, clear their cache and cookies and try again.
    • Ask the user for the step-by-step on how they can reproduce the problem.

    You get the idea.

Volunteer support is not easy. But these forums need to a safe place for all users, experienced or new. Accessing their system that way is a short cut that will get you into real trouble in these forums.

@sterndata I’m not asking for admin access, just a login to the website because it’s currently in maintenance mode. Is that not allowed either?

No, you may not ask for *any* website login here. If the maintenance plugin is an issue, ask the user to disable it for some period of time.

I have taken a couple of screenshots (links below) to see if this helps you shed any light on what is happening.

    https://postimg.cc/gallery/XW5H6bx

The first image (purple) is what I am trying to achieve and what I see in the preview but the second one (white) is actually what is being displayed on the page.

    Hope that helps.

Could you test if it makes a difference when switching to a default theme (like Twenty Twenty) for a second?

    Thread Starter vickylbh

    (@vickylbh)

    Hi Brecht

Yes that does make a difference. So it’s a theme issue, I guess? Is there something I can fiddle with in the CSS to get rid of the white? Or do I need to contact my theme supplier?

Appreciate all your help on this!

It does sound like your theme is forcing some styling inside of the recipe card. If they want to have their own custom recipe card, they should do it like this instead: https://help.bootstrapped.ventures/article/298-how-themes-can-style-wp-recipe-maker

I do recommend contacting their support to see if that can be removed or changed.

Thanks, Brecht. I’ve managed to fix it myself. Huzzah!

    Great plugin, thank you ??

Happy to hear! Do let me know if you experience any further issues at all.
