Resetting the options for a user account ?

    I suspect something is strange between two user accounts on my blog. In this regard, I’d like to know if there’s a “reset all save the password and email” option for the users.

    The context :
    – One of the users on my blog had a bug (visual editor screwing up, with all browsers, even browsers that were NEVER used to open that blog), so I created him a new user account with the same Editor priviledge. And with the second user account everything worked fine.
    – Troubled, I used phpmyadmin to see what were the differences between the two accounts.
    – And to my surprise, they were quite numerous, in many regards, in the wp_usermeta table !
    More than that, for the second user_id there were 17 entries, while for the first user_id there were 27 ones ! O_o
    – That makes too many differences for me to compare them one by one and see which one made the real difference between “screwed up” and “okay”.
    – besides, since there’s a different number of table entries, I don’t dare cloning user account #2 into user account #1 while discarding the entries only present in account #1. Who knows what it may trigger.

    –> so just in case this situation arises again, I’d humbly like to ask if there’s a safe “reset everything, save the password and email” option, this way, I could trust the first user account could be restored back into good service ??

    Sorry – not in WordPress core.

    Many of these probably relate to different screen option settings, column/pane displays etc. As such, it would be expected that the older account should have more entries.

    Do you think it would bring no harm to forcefully manually do a new account –> old account cloning, while deleting all entries that don’t exist in the new account ?

    Why do you want to try and clone one account? Is there a problem with your user and his new account?

    Why, yes, of course, i’m not asking just to know if it’s possible ??

    Suddenly, a few days ago, that person has had a situation in which he was unable to switch back to the Visual Editor mode, even though the option to disable it wasn’t ticked, clicking the visual button wouldn’t let him switch back to visual editor.
    Browser cache cleaning, changing to another browser that never opened the blog, nothing worked.
    Just in case, I created a new account for that person, leaving all options to default.
    And that other account doesn’t have the same problem. Depending on which account he’s logging in, the bug is present, or absent.

    I know the simplest would be to test, one by one, the entries in wp_usermeta, it’s one of them that’s causing the problem, by itself or because of a bad interaction, but that would be a lot of testing to do.

    Is this browser or machine specific?

    Neither browser nor machine specific, Esmi, it was user specific.

    My own admin user’s account works correctly (well, I reported in the past a problem with hyperlinks creating having the old WP window overimposed, but that one only affects me on my own computer, so I gave up on understanding). But when I logged in with that person’s login and password, I suddenly had the same problem as him, on 2 different test machines. And the problem was gone when I logged out and logged back as admin.

    I guess it’s one of those “too rare but shit happens” kind of forever-unexplainable bugs.

    Let’s not fret on this, if nobody else reports it, then it’s for the best.

    Hmm… some sort of corrupted cookie perhaps?

    My computer had never been logged as that user before, and I got the problem right out of the box as soon as I logged with his account.
    (Seriously Esmi, don’t waste your time on this ^^)

    when I logged in with that person’s login and password, I suddenly had the same problem as him, on 2 different test machines.

    Just wondering if that user profile was setting a corrupt cookie. Maybe something weird in the profile settings itself? I agree it’s probably one of those one-in-a-million things but I get curious… ??
