Resize based on original image instead of from “-scaled”

    I intend to use this plugin to “clean” a site with images that have been uploaded at a very large size. It seems perfect for the task.

    However, when Imsanity resizes the images it seems it uses the image that has already been resized by WordPress once and has the “-scaled” appended to the file name.

    It seems to me that it would be wiser to use the original image – if it still exists in the uploads folder. That would give better quality images.

    I am guessing that Imsanity uses the “-scaled” image as the base for its resizing since the name of the new file is also “-scaled”. But perhaps I am mistaken and that you do that simply to keep the file name that is most likely used in posts.

    Could you clarify what Imsanity acually do?

    Sorry this must have gotten flagged by a spam filter and I totally missed it!
    Imsanity does indeed operate on the “scaled” version for existing images. I like your idea to check if the original exists and use that as the source instead. I’m going to put it on my todo list for future improvements.

    I don’t like that it adds -scaled to the filename, I thought this would just replace the original in the case of “Do not keep original file”.

    @technicalx do not post on old threads, start your own. Imsanity doesn’t add -scaled to the filename, that’s core WordPress behavior.
