With the plugin, we grab the largest screenshot we can find for the provided video ID, and upload it to the media library. This allows for the image to also get versions of all the registered image sizes for your website. Beyond that, our plugin here doesn’t do much else besides make the actual featured image assignment. We’re not going to have any direct influence on the carousel or what image size(s) it selects.
One question I am wondering about, is if the only images provided by Youtube/vimeo for this video in question, are considerably smaller than ideal for a carousel. I believe there are mechanisms for regenerating thumbnails with Youtube, but that also requires that you be the owner of the video, in case you’re not for this example. That said I’m willing to give things a lookover from the perspective of our plugin here, if you are able to provide the video url in question.
