• A problem I’ve been having with my WordPress install is that sometimes, when using the thumbnail version of a transparent gif in a page, it creates a nasty latticeowrk non-transparent background.

You can see the problem on this page:
    https://kbrechtel.com/nidus/nidus-residents/
if you look for entry “Ossessia”. (Click on the link and you can see the full-sized image doesn’t have this problem.)

It seems to happen inconsistently between images and their different-sized thumbnails. e.g., if you go to this page:
    https://kbrechtel.com/nidus/nidus-staff/
and scroll down near the bottom, there are two 100×100 thumbnails whose larger thumbs didn’t have this lattice effect.

Has anyone else run into this? If so, how have you fixed it?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • I just tested this on my local wordpress installation and I can’t understand it. With me the thumbnails are generated properly.

My assumption is that it is due to the PHP version used in your hosting and the graphics libraries included in it. If necessary, you should ask your hoster about it, maybe it is also a setting problem or updates are still pending.

Thanks for the suggestion! It didn’t pan out. I ran it by my hosting service and they seem to think everything’s in order on their end.

I was noticing it only happened with older images (some of these are from circa 2005, lordy) so I’ve been re-saving older images as new pngs and so far it seems to be fixing the issue. Fingers crossed it doesn’t cause other problems down the line, ha!
