I have a blog with lots of visitors and around 1400 pictures. Now my hoster cancelled my service because of bandwith problems.

They told me that I should resize my images. Some images were 5000×3500 pixels. TBH I didn’t know I should care about that.

Now I found the plugin https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/bulk-resize-media/ . But which resolution should I take? People should have a great user experience now and in 3 years.

Also some images are small. What can I do that it doesn’t automatically create a bigger resolution for them or is that impossible?

I already installed a plugin for Image optimization but it doesn’t resize the resolution of the pictures.

    Thanks!

  • The image size you need to resize to depends on where the images are used and what are the image sizes supported by your theme.

If you are including them in post content for display purposes, your image need not be wider than the size of the div entry-content. In my personal opinion, I think images need not be wider than 960px.

What is the theme you are using, if it is a free theme, I can have a look at the code and tell you the sizes the theme supports.
