    Hello :
I’d like you to refer me to a tutorial on how to resize images in WordPress.

I’m having an issue when posting images they do not come out as I scaled them.

To begin with most if not all images I have on Media Library are square Thumbnail settings (see screenshot Media Library. Square files https://monosnap.com/file/Q9vQnGZjGRt2biFimZ6F2Ab9lExIN9). How do I correct this default feature to the original images?

Let’s take for example this shrimp image (Shrimp. Image file https://monosnap.com/file/IMyCYXW4BJBu8cxwwqWjTyg3TcZNKV) I want to post it as Thumbnail setting rectangular, not square (135×135 pixels), alternatively 200×113 pixels.

I want the image on the upper right hand size, not the square image ticked.

When I go to editing (Shrimp Scale screenshot https://monosnap.com/file/U4ScFdWMgxY8adE9MbSEcJkuQt3wBd) I write 400×225 pixels, but it comes out square (135×135 pixels). Assuming this size is too big how do I adjust on the lower right hand size Thumbnail settings rectangular, not square scale?

    Thanking you in advance,
    Enrique Vanegas

    Hi @vevanegas

I hope you’re well today and thank you for your question!

That’s not quite Smush-related but rather related to how WordPress handles images. The first thing is that Media Library in “grid view” always shows images that way – as “square” thumbnails, regardless of whatever size the images actually are. That doesn’t mean that they’ll be showing up on site that way.

However, whenever you upload an image to the site, WordPress automatically creates additional images of various sizes out of them. There are three default image sizes registered and you can see/change that on “Settings -> Media” page in your site’s back-end.

Additionally, an original image is stored and – in case it’s bigger (any direction) than 2560px – there’s also a “smaller original” created:

    https://make.www.ads-software.com/core/2019/10/09/introducing-handling-of-big-images-in-wordpress-5-3/

Additionally to those “default” sizes your theme and some other plugins can also register additional image sizes. You can see full list of available image sizes e.g. on “Smush -> Bulk Smush” page in “Image Sizes” option if you switch it to “Custom”. The list will show you all the available (registered) image sizes.

When adding image to the post/page you have a selection of the size of the image to be added, like this:

    https://monosnap.com/file/uPB7XDuVy67heRXc5bOuwokdTjNhTZ

So, knowing about sizes (as described earlier) you can select the most suitable one from “Image sizes” drop-down list there.

    Best regards,
    Adam
