• Hi there ??

I am using this responsive menu plugin which seems to be abandoned: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/responsive-menu/

And that makes me wonder… why doesn’t WordPress have a good customizable responsive menu like this?

I think it would be highly appreciated for all users.

    Greetings.

  • Because menus, as with all display elements, are meant to be part of a theme and not core. That way you can use any menu system that you want to without being forcedto use only one.

If you look around you’ll see almost as many different menu “systems” as there are themes. With that in mind, there’s no way that you could set one in core and have it work for most people.

I see… But perhaps it would be possible to use the core or theme responsive menu alternatively. I mean to have both options and use one or the other at your convenience. Don’t you think?

    To be honest… no.

I don’t want to see core bloated with something that only a % of people will use. Even having to choose one or the other is still overhead (admittedly small) that doesn’t need to be there.

I understand you. The fact is, I’m looking for a good candidate to replace Responsive Menu, but I can’t find one that looks that amazing, offers a lifetime license, and doesn’t cost me a rib. That is why I would like to have the native option in WordPress.

Perhaps an off-canvas widget like the ones that come with Astra, Happy or Essential Addons could do the trick. What do you think? Could it work to use an off-canvas menu as a responsive one?

    Regards.
