    Hello,
I have an image optimzation plugin that messed up my media library and upload folders, and one of the solutions is to restore from a backup before any of it happened. But I did the backup ~4 days ago on WP 5.4.2, and I updated to 5.5 last night before I knew how severe the issue was.

So my question is, can I restore the backup or am I going to run into issues due to the update?
    Thanks!

Yes, you can restore the data.
    There shouldn’t be any issues.

@yaniiliev Sorry to bother you with another question, but there are quite a few images that were moved around that had new thumbnails generated and the old ones got abandoned by WP. A few of these abandoned thumbnails laying around the uploads folder were in use and registered in the old backup, is this going to cause any issues if I were to restore? Should I remove any current abandoned thumbnails before restoring?

    Thanks again!

You will need to ask the image optimization plugin author.
They will know and advise you better what to do.

    I’ll do that, thanks.
I was just more curious how this plugin handles the restore process. If it “wipes” your uploads folder, then fill it in with the items from the backup or if it just “dumps” everything back, which may cause issues for me.

No, the plugin will do a merge between the existing content of your uploads folder and what is in the database. When there is identical content, the content from the archive will be used.
If you need a clean uploads folder, delete the contents first before importing.

    Got it, thanks!
