    Hello all,

I recently set up a new website after some time and had a backup of a previous website that I deleted.

I’m looking to import my data from this external backup/file on the hard disk which is .tar.gz format into my new website. I want it to merge with my existing data and not end up replacing it. I’m most interested in merging a trove of my past posts and images from the previous website with the new one.

I’m told to use PHP admin. I’m a total noob in this regard and I’m afraid I might end up breaking my website if I dare toy around with it.

WP support doesn’t have a walkthrough on how to do it via the PHP admin portal. A link to Jetpack’s support article is often quoted but it isn’t of much help for a person with a non-technical background.

    https://jetpack.com/support/backup/manually-restore-a-backup/

Can someone list down steps on how to achieve my intended objective? Or a resource where a step-by-step procedure is listed so I can follow it. Thanks.

    Hi @writerswork17

Unfortunately, assisting with manual restoration of backups is outside our scope of support. The best resource we have is the article that you referenced above.

That said, there isn’t really an easy way for you to do this without needing to use the database administration tools or the command line.

In some cases, your hosting provider may be able to help you with this migration.

If it feels too difficult (which is totally understandable), you may need to hire a developer. You can search for development help in a variety of places — here are a few to start:
