• Recently I had an accident and messed up my WP database. So I had my hosting company restore their backup of the site. Everything came back as normal except that now the admin user can no longer access the wp-admin page. Basically every other admin page within the wp-admin space is accessible, so I can edit pages, I can install plugins, I can change settings etc, but the admin dashboard and update sections are not available to me. I’m not sure what to do in this scenario. I have manually checked the database to make sure that the wp_capabilities and wp_user_level are set correctly, and they are.

Is there any recomendations on how to go about fixing this? I also seem to be locked out of my user page.

I have tried renaming my plugins folder to eliminate any of that, but that hasn’t helped any.

  • Have you tried repairing your database?
If that doesn’t help, you could try downloading a fresh copy of WordPress from the repository, and then deleting the existing WordPress files/directories before uploading the fresh versions – expect wp-config.php and /wp-content/ of course :).
