I had a WP site set up for a client. The client didn’t renew the hosting and the hosting company cancelled the hosting. I had a copy of the wp files and template and a db backup folder that has a htaccess file but I don’t see a database itself. Does this mean I’m screwed with restoring the site without the actual database or does the htaccess file have it all in there? I’m sorry if I sound stupid, I’m fairly new to the world of wordpress.
    Thanks in advance

The .htaccess file is just a basic Apache control file. If you don’t have the actual MySQL database backup, then I’m afraid that all of the content is lost.

Talk sweetly to the old host – they might not have scrubbed the backups and you might be able to buy a recent back-up of the site and database.

    Yes at $150 which I don’t have.
    Thanks everyone.
