• I have an urgent problem. I recently installed the Producer theme on a website, and customised appearance and personal items.

There was one item I wanted changed (the bottom 1/3 of the Home page, which was not required) and I asked a WordPress professional to help do this. He did, I accepted the minor job, and it looked OK. I understand he edited a template.

However, it has now ‘collapsed’ and several items are incorrect. The professional can’t be contacted, and I need to restore to the original version.

I tried to do this by deleting the theme, and uploading a fresh version, but the problems are still apparent.

Is there a way of carrying out a totally fresh install of a theme, without it taking on the incorrect customisation which was carried out? Or do I have to carry out a complete reinstall of WordPress?

My WordPress skills unfortunately, are very basic.

    Thank you.

if the problem you are facing is connected to the theme only, then completely removing the theme and using a default theme like twentyfifteen can give you a fresh start with CSS and templates.
then you can take a totally unchanged copy of the theme you would like to use and upload that version.
if a child theme was used, that may be where the customizations were made.
if the customizations were made in a plugin, you would need to deactivate the plugin.
if any changes were made to the WordPress core files, that would cause other issues and maybe need to reinstall WordPress

Many thanks for your detailed reply.

As I don’t know exactly what the ‘professional’ had done, and I’m not in contact, I decided the most straightforward solution (time-sensitive) was to restore the site via CPanel backup/restore to 24hrs ago.

I now need to find someone to help customise the site, and who preferably is familiar with The Producer theme….
