After I upgraded to 2.6 from 2.5.1 following the directions in the docs, I was able to log into admin, but all pages were blank. I tried to restore my database from the backup, but get this error:
    Error

    SQL query:

    — Database: fbcmcd_fbcmcd

    CREATE DATABASE fbcmcd_fbcmcd DEFAULT CHARACTER SET latin1 COLLATE latin1_swedish_ci;

    MySQL said: Documentation
    #1007 – Can’t create database ‘fbcmcd_fbcmcd’; database exists

I restored a known-good database, but the entire blog is missing – the structure is there, the header is there, but the content is gone.

I’ve got a back-up of my site, but am unsure of which files I need to restore and think I’ll stop now and ask for help before I destroy it all together.

    Can you help?
    the site url is: https://www.fbcmcdonough.com

    Thanks!

When I log-in, this is the url of the blank page:
    https://www.fbcmcdonough.com/fbcnew/wp-admin/upgrade.php?_wp_http_referer=%2Ffbcnew%2Fwp-admin%2F

    Anyone out there??
Thanks in advance for helping a WordPress newbie.

That SQL error suggests that your backup contains commands to create a database then populate it, rather than simply populating the existing one. Although it refers to mambo rather than WordPress, I think post#4 from here will help you:

    https://forum.mamboserver.com/showthread.php?t=76192

You will have to open up your sql file in text edit or similar and remove those first lines. If that is your problem, I can guarantee it works – I just did it myself about 5mins ago!

    That will be the problem.

You may then also need to delete any existing tables that you have in your database, before you can restore, depending on how the backup has been generated.

Thanks guys! I sincerely appreciate you taking the time to respond to my request. I ended up enlisting the help of another WordPress user, who worked diligently to restore my site. I learned one very important thing…don’t mess with stuff if you don’t know what you are doing!
    Peace
