    Hi,

I have a question I’ve been meaning to ask for sometime. The FAQs state that when migrating the site you should export the settings and then uninstall NinjaFirewall. Then you reinstall the plugin and import the settings when the new site is ready on the new server. My question is this: Is it safe to restore a database from a backup in the case of a fatal error or other issues, where NinjaFirewall has not been deactivated and uninstalled, and the site has not been migrated to a different server?

    Hi,

I don’t see any problem with that. If the DB is quite large and reimporting it takes several minutes, I would still block any access to the site during that time.
Even if its tables are corrupted or truncated, the firewall should not crash the front-end. It should only display alerts and warnings in the back-end.

When migrating NinjaFirewall to another site, the problem does not come from the DB but from the PHP INI or .htaccess files: they contain the full path to the firewall, and maybe to other apps as well such as caching plugins etc, and they will likely crash the new site because these absolute paths won’t match any longer. Because most backup plugins export and reimport the INI and .htaccess without checking or warning about this issue, we recommend to uninstall NF before migrating .

Ah. Thank you. Both for the reassurance, and the explanation. That’s very clear now.
