• Hi. I have a www.ads-software.com blog on my website and I recently had to take down my site to place it in a new hosting location. I backed up all of my files (including my blog) on a hard drive and re-uploaded them. Once my site was up, I noticed that my blog had a database error message. I reinstalled www.ads-software.com and tried to view my previous blog. However, the blog has started from scratch.

I still have the files from the original blog. How can I restore the blog to its original state? Thank you for all of your help.

    Here is my website:

  • All your content (i.e. your posts) is stored in a MySQL database on your web server whereas your wordpress installation (themes, plugins etc) are stored as files on your web server. Therefore if your move your wordpress installation to another server you’ll need to move your database onto that server as well. It sounds like you have not moved your database hence you see the structure of your site without any content.

Have a look at this from the codex which explains how to move to another server:

Hello 2ells. Thank you for your reply and information, it is very useful. However, when I canceled the hosting for my site and relocated to my current hosting location, I backed up everything but my mysql database for the blog. Will I still be able to restore the blog in my new hosting location?

If you don’t have the database backup, you won’t be able to restore it – there is nothing to restore it from. If you do have it, you could ask your new host to do a restore.

Thank you for your reply. It is greatly appreciated.

Hello, I updated my wordpress blog to 3.0.4 and now my traffic has completely stopped. My site is still indexed with Google. No links are broken to any of my pages but I’ve gone from 300-500 visitors per day to an average of 5 I appreciate the help that anyone can give me.
