Restoring without Migrator plugin (same domain name, new hosting)
-
Hey there,
Do I understand it correctly that I cannot restore a backup of a website to a new hosting without the Migrator plugin? At least all guides I could find kinda point this way.
Here’s what I did:
– Backed up everything with UpDraft at the old hosting
– Changed the TTL on the A record at the old hosting
– Established the domain and the website space a the new provider
– Set the A record to the new IP
– Installed a plain WordPress
– Installed the UpDraft plugin
– Pointed UpDraft to the Google drive
– After uploading it complained about filesize…
– Nevertheless I started the restore
– It restored the database but failed at everything elseIs that the correct procedure? Or doe I need the Migrator plugin for this to work? Strange enough it did the database. And that’s the one thing that has different naming on the new hosting.
To be transparent, I use BackupBuddy for the past 10+ years and it never failed me, until now. And I do find their way of restoring, through an installer php, much less cumbersome. But since the development of BackupBuddy has somewhat stalled, I am open enough to throw some coin your way if I can migrate hosting, migrate domain names or simply to have a reliable backup AND restore solution.
Thanks & Best,
Alex
