I’m trying to set up a wordpress site so that viewers can only read posts within a particular category if they are logged in subscribers. I’ve tried a few plugins without success. I also tried installing the Role Manager supervisor and giving subscribers permission to view private posts. However, this hides the posts in the blog, which is not what I want.

I want the category to be listed, and the extracts to be shown, but the user to be asked to login when they click on ‘more’ (if they are not logged in already). The Subscribers-Only plugin sounds perfect, but it’s been offline for over a year now…

    Are there any other solutions?

    bumping this back up…

I’ve played with a couple more plugins since, such as wp_members and protectcontent. The trouble is that each of these restricts per post, and I want to restrict a category, ideally with a “you could be reading this if you were logged in” message.

    Anyone?

I have now solved this, using the protect content plug-in.

You may no longer need this answer, but Category Access 0.8.0 is working for me on WordPress 2.1.3. I also installed RoleManager, but I don’t think it’s required.

I’m looking for a way to simply make posts in some categories so that only logged in users (any role, just logged in) can see them, while posts in other categories are viewable by the general public. Category Access 0.8.2 is on a user by user basis. I need control over individual user access.

Any other plugins available for this?

this seems to do the trick for what I needed: Allow Categories
