WP does this by default, no plugin required. On the page’s edit screen, under “Visibility” in the right sidebar, select “Password Protected” and enter the desired shared password.

Thanks. One further question. When tried on an ipad and having used the password the page seemed to stay open even when the ipad was closed and reopened. The password wans’t needed.

Is this correct or is there something I haven’t done?
