restrict access to an entire custom post type

hey,

need to have all posts form a custom post type, restricted for a certain role (contributor) of logged in users. trying to find a way to set it by default and not do it manually for each post.

having the same problem with a previous topic, tried the solution there, by restricting taxonomies, but didnt work. had to manually restrict from the post edit form.

any insights?
