Restrict access to post type

I have some pages of categorized downloads that are restricted via user capability. Works fine.

In the header, I’ve put in a search feature for downloads by title or category. This ‘goes around’ my Groups page-id-based protection. Does Groups provide a means to restrict access to these?

The form of the search url is this: ?post_type=download&s=my-search-item

I’ll temporarily solve this by putting the search form in a protected page, but I’d like to move the search form back to the header.
