Restrict content to group that created it

  • I know that I can restrict specific categories, posts types, posts etc. to specific groups. However, what I really need to do is have categories, and everything belonging to that category restricted so that it’s only visible the group whose member created it. It won’t be an option to manually do this since it will have to be restricted immediately.
    Example, Group A has Joe, John and Jack as members. Group B has Jane, Jill and Jacky as members. Joe creates a post and only him, Jack and John can see it. Nobody in Group B can see it. Would this be possible with any of the purchased add ons?

    Hi,

    It depends on how you let them create posts – if they can do it from the back end, they could already assign a group and restrict the post created provided they have the permission to “Restrict Access” assigned to their role (that can be done via Groups > Options > Permissions) or if based on groups, create a group and assign the “groups_restrict_access” capability to the group, add the members who should be allowed to create the posts to that group.

    For this they would have to create posts on the back end and it would not automatically restrict the groups, they would have to choose the appropriate group.

    If you let them create posts through the front end, please let me know if you’re using a form tool for that or some customized template.

    This is exactly what I need too @proaktion! In my case I’m using Formidable Pro for front end submission but some users will get into wp-admin for more access to costom post types

    Thanks maybe we could envision creating an integration similar to this one with Gravity Forms https://codecanyon.net/item/groups-gravity-forms/6829689 – if you’d like to have a look at that and want to provide any ideas and suggestions, I’d be happy to take these into account.
