• I created a new dev site with generatepress as my theme. I added Nav Menu Roles and set up my menu structure (all blank pages at this point) with intended menu visibility. I have a page for just my organization’s board of directors who will have the ‘editor’ role. I also have some volunteers who will write articles and have the ‘author’ role.

I thought the role selection was for the ‘minimum role’; meaning that just selecting the ‘author’ role would also include the ‘editor’ role. Is this not correct?

If I set both roles, it works correctly.

    Cheers,
    Dave

In general I remember that being the case…. because I’ve definitely had people ask questions about why an “Editor” item showed for an “Admin”. But keep in mind that roles really aren’t the ideal way to check if a user can do something. It’s way more convenient for us to use a role, but in WordPress a role isn’t the most reliable thing to check. If we want to be perfectly accurate about who can and cannot view things we need to check capabilities… but the UI for listing all the capabilities would be ridiculous.

So we’re sort of stuck in between. The roles “mostly” work but they will not always be perfect. If you want perfection you could add a custom “pseudo” role to NMR that is actually the name of a capability that both an author and an editor would have.

There’s also no real downside to selecting both in this case. Hope that helps.
